Lake doesn't score much
but holds opponents to one TD in each game
Clear Lake continues its
impressive early season run after defeating
La Porte 14-7 last week. The Bulldogs (0-1)
were highly ranked in the Greater Houston
Area.
The eyes of the Falcons (2-0) have been
turned toward visiting South Houston. The
two teams meet at 7 p.m. Friday in District
Stadium. It's Lake's first home contest of
the season.
For Clear Lake coach Troy Aduddell, the
Falcons are playing better and more
consistent than last season.
"One thing I'm real happy about is that
we're not losing games like last year when
our turnovers cost us games," he said.
"I think we're clicking all around. We've
played two quality teams. Our defense is
playing well and offensively we're
methodically driving down the field and
controlling the ball."
Lake's defense has given up only one in each
game and Aduddell lauded the work of the
line, which is young but includes senior
leadership. The defensive secondary has also
been staunch with players such as Chris
Ferguson.
"He has an interception in each game and has
broken up several pass plays," Aduddell said
of his senior defensive back. "He reads the
quarterback real well."
Aduddell and his staff are not taking South
Houston lightly.
The Trojans are 0-1 on the campaign, falling
to Baytown Sterling 30-14 last week.
"They have a couple of very good
quarterbacks (Keegan Savell and Morlon
Washington). One throws about as pretty ball
as I've seen and the other one is more
mobile," said Aduddell, "and they alternate
them."
Both of South Houston's touchdowns came on
pass plays. The two Trojan quarterbacks
threw for 239 yards in the game against
Sterling. South Houston had 36 yards
rushing. Baytown Sterling had 216 yards
passing.
"They do like to throw the ball," Aduddell
added, meaning his defense will get a
workout on Friday night.
Both of Clear Lake's touchdowns against La
Porte came on sustained drives of 80 yards.
The Falcons scored first in the second
quarter only to see the Bulldogs tie the
game 7-7 in the final seconds of the half.
Ronnie Feaster scored Lake's first TD on a 5
yard run with 4:03 left in the half.
The Bulldogs retaliated with 37 ticks
remaining in the half as Quentin Castille
went in from the three.
Falcon sophomore Eric Canas capped the
scoring with 3:35 left in the third quarter
on a 15 yard scamper.
Clear Lake went ahead to stay with 3:35 left
in the third period and the Falcon defense
held off the passing attack of Boogie
Anagnostou the rest of the way.
As a matter of fact the defense was solid
against La Porte's vaunted offense, holding
the 'Dogs to 132 rushing yards and only 89
passing. Along the way, Lake intercepted
Anagnostou twice.
In typical fashion the Falcons attempted six
passes and completed none. But the ground
game was clicking with 271 yards.
