All-district football teams named

By: CHUCK HLAVA , Citizen Staff

Oswald Player of Year; Aduddell Coach of Year; Brook's Frank, Lake's Jones on first team

This year's all-district football selections might stand out a little more from previous years because of the success 24-5A had not only in post-season, but during the year.
Of the seven teams in the league, four had winning seasons. Three of those teams took their talented rosters into the playoffs - Clear
Lake, Pearland and Clear Brook. Alvin was the fourth team with a winning record.
And, of course, we know that Clear
Lake came THISCLOSE to playing for the state championship.
The Falcons shared the District 24-5A title with Pearland and finished the season 13-2. Clear Brook shook off four years of frustration to post its first season on the plus side and added a bonus with a post-season appearance, the Wolverines' first in six years.
While Clear Lake had the highlight reel of the season with its push into the state semifinal game at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Dec. 11, the Falcons didn't by any means dominate the all-district picks.
As a matter of fact Pearland, which finished the season at 9-2, took more spots on the offensive and defensive teams than did Clear
Lake. But, in a way, that signifies that the Falcons came up with a true team effort during the banner season. It was the best showing of any CCISD team in history.
But Lake did snare several plum picks on the 2004 24-5A All-District selections.
For starters, Falcon quarterback Scott Oswald gets the nods for Player of the Year and First Team Quarterback.
Oswald, who passed infrequently (581 yards) but ran the option attack well and the opponents dizzy, was one of the state's top rushers with 2,045 yards in the 15 games. The senior was last year's Offensive MVP.
Clear Lake head coach Troy Aduddell picks up his second straight Coach of the Year honors.
Pearland, one of the most successful teams in the region for the past several years under coach Tony Heath, has quarterback Brandon Buckner named as Offensive Player of the Year.
Buckner was the only signal caller to go over the 1,000-yard stripe in passing in 24-5A. In the 11 Oiler games, the senior passed for over 1,500 yards.
For Clear Lake, joining Oswald on the first team offense are, all seniors, running back Elrick Jones and linemen John Nemec and Ben Volk.
Jones, a speedster who could run around any defense, had over 1,000 yards rushing during the year.
Clear Brook has running back Carlos Frank, who was outstanding last year as a sophomore find and continued that this season with a near-1,200-yard rushing performance, on the first team.
Another Wolverine making the elite first squad on offense is receiver Matt Bandini.
In his second year at Brook as head coach, Edward Arledge has turned that program around.
Rounding out the first team on offense are two other 1,000-plus rushers, in addition to Jones and Frank: Foswhitt Whitaker of Pearland and Alvin's Dwight Goffney.
Pearland's Brandon Boone, who led all receivers in district with close to 700 yards, is on the first team in that category. The Oilers also placed two offensive linemen on the first team: Curtis Bass and Steven Kenney while teammate Jake Moylan is on the first team as kicker.
Alvin also placed offensive lineman Hunter Schmidt on the first team.
Galveston Ball's receiver Darnell Jones is on the first team.
Brazoswood's Nick Kveton is on the first team as tight end while teammate Cody Schiefen also made it as a lineman.
Maybe a surprise to some was that the Falcons placed only one player on First Team Defense. That player was tall and lanky defensive end Jeff Wheeler.
Brook had two defensive players on the first team.
Wolverines Eddy Inyanguima, an inside linebacker, and punter Cory Barlow, are first team picks on defense. Both are seniors. Barlow led the district with a 38.19 kicking average. Barlow also made it on the first team in the secondary.
Clear Creek's Brandon Burton, a sophomore, is on the first team as return specialist. He was the only player in district to return a kickoff for a touchdown during the regular season.
The Oilers also picked up another individual pick when senior Quinton Moore took the Defensive MVP honor.
In addition, Pearland had Brian Spain (lineman), Texavier Henry (inside linebacker), Brian Dudik (outside linebacker), and Justin Vaughn and Ray Hunter (secondary) on first team defense.
Joining them on first team defense are Alvin's Dominic Vargas (end), Jeff Smith (lineman), Tyler Zaruba (outside linebacker), along with Ball's Rajon Henry (lineman) and Eugene Webb (secondary).
The Second Team Offense is also full of top CCISD players.
Clear Lake running back Daniel McCalib is on the second team, as are teammates Brian Kaufman (lineman) and kicker Kyle Chism.
Clear Brook's Corey Sonnier is the quarterback on the second team while teammate Robert McPhail made it as second team lineman.
Clear Creek placed offensive lineman Josh Littlejohn and receiver Taylor Echols on the second team.
The Second Team Defense has: Clear Brook's Broderick Davis (end), Lake's Ryan Johnson (lineman), Brook's Adam Alcaraz (lineman), Jamie McMurchy (inside linebacker), Brook's Jeff Johnson (outside linebacker), Lake's Ryan Nisbet and Bobby Hamilton (secondary) and Cory Barlow (return specialist).
