District Stadium gets the nod

Are you ready for a
little football?
Well, District Stadium is, too.
The 47-year-old stadium got the OK Friday
from structural engineers for another year of high school sports.
In making the announcement, the Clear Creek School District said it received a
letter from Conti Jumper Gardner & Associates that stated, "It is our
professional opinion that both the stadium and pressbox can be safely used for
their originally intended purpose."
The future of the aging facility came into question in May when the independent
structural engineering consulting firm conducted a structural survey and found
that rusting bolts and falling pressure plates were weakening the structural
integrity of the stadium.
The inspection had been requested by the CCISD Facility Needs Committee as it
looked over the district in conjunction with the May bond referendum, which
subsequently failed.
When the report came back - after voters had rejected the bond issue - CCISD
officials were perplexed. Millions would be needed to fix the stadium and the
district didn't have the money.
Finally, the community came to CCISD's aid with nearly 300 volunteers offering
to help solve the problem.
The basic maintenance requirements were fixed with donations of materials and
labor from all over the community over the course of two weekends - many
offering their professional expertise.
Looking back, CCISD Superintendent Dr. Sandra Mossman said, "The district really
appreciates the interest and support displayed by the individuals who
volunteered their time and donated materials for this project.
"This incredible response we received from the community is a reflection of how
much they care about the students and their school district," she added.
