JV Dark Falcons fly right through the tornado on their way to being district champs
by Raymond Aronoff
November 8, 2002

Many family and friends remember last years Freshman Falcon that went into Galveston undefeated and had their dreams of the undefeated season snatched away by a heartbreaking last minute loss to the Galveston Tornadoes.  This year the district championship was on the line and it was Galveston who came in undefeated and both teams were undefeated in district play.  With no JV light, the coaches had to integrate the teams and come up with a solution that provided them the answers they would need.

#11 Bart and #10 T.J. would share the QB position, while #25 Brian , #10 T.J. and #8 Ryan would together make up the three headed running back monster that would prove to be the dominant weapon in this war.  With the temperature going low enough to bring out the blankets and jackets, the coaches went with a fres-legged running attack that got the ball moving on the field.  The Falcon team was able to easily move the ball through the Tors defense but continued to struggle in the red zone on offense.  The first two drives put them inside the 20, but they walked away with 0 points.

Thanks was the word from the offense as the defense stood these Tors up on every drive.  The Tors were unable to run, pass, or find any way to move the ball at all.  The defensive line was penetrating, the linebackers were meeting the middle runner at the line and the cornerbacks were putting some mean hits on any running back trying to make it around the end.

Midway through the second quarter, the Falcon defense shook up the pitch right and forced the Tors to lay down in their own end zone for a safety.  Clear Lake would take a lead that looked more like a world cup score at 2 to nil.  Creating turmoil again, the Falcon defense gave the offense an early Christmas present by creating a fumble on the Tors 15 with only a few minutes left in the first half.  The Falcons moved within striking distance and let #1 Kyle Chism finish the drive with a field goal that brought the score to 5-0.  Although the Falcons went into the half at 5-0, they were in complete control not letting Galveston gain one first down the entire first half.

The second half script followed suit from the first. Clear Lake dominated the game and had beautiful run backs and an interception by #9 Matt Young.  Galveston almost scored a touchdown on a special teams play, but #1 Kyle Chism was able to slow the man down while support came in from behind.  Matt Young scored a beautiful break away touchdown to seal the deal and give Lake their final 12 to nothing score and a District championship.

These kids go into next season knowing they can win.  Many who will be juniors have won as freshman and now as sophomores.  It will be the hopes of many Falcons families and friends that the momentum stays alive and puts Clear Lake on the football map for 2003!  Way to go JV, we are all proud of how well you guys played as athletes and worked together as teammates.  Good luck surviving off season.
