The Village Idiot Thinks About Creek and Brook

The Creek game was a loss, 24-14, but our Falcons did well, what with the loss considered. The team held Creek's gains on the field to 260 yards, about the least they have gotten in any game (their average gain had been 381 yards up to last Friday night); our offense put up 175 yards which was a little better than their average allowance of 141 yards. And we lost receivers and runners in the course of the game, and there was that awful disaster of a runback of the 3rd quarter kickoff to the Lake RedZone that led to the early and last Creek touchdown. Creek is ranked up there in the top 10-20 teams in the state in most of the polls. The Falcons performed well against this stellar team, and all the players, coaches, girlfriends, and parents can hold their heads high.

This Friday the Falcons go up against Clear Brook, a team that is struggling. They are starting to get their act together and they will give our guys a fight. They have been preparing hard for this game for they need to get on the scoreboard. Thus far this season Brook has won only one game; but their defense is actually doing well--they held Alvin to 12 points and Ball to 15. Both of these teams were used to racking up greater leads. And there is a serious rivalary between Creek and Brook, so expect the Wolverines to come out fighting this Friday.

Nonetheless, the Idiot is going to call this one for Lake by about 17 points. Our guys are primed, they have the right stuff, and they have to win this one to get into the Playoffs. They will give it their all, and they should win this one.

Now if we win and then go on to beat Ball, we should get to the playoffs, right. This football stuff is so easy. But I just looked at the possibilities at the bottom of the website home page, and look at this scenario contributed by one of the bigger boosters of the Falcons:

We beat Brook and Ball. we finish 3-2
Creek loses to Ball and Alvin. Finish 3-2
Alvin loses to Brazoswood and beats Creek. Finishes 3-2
Ball beats Creek and loses to Lake. Finish 3-2
Brazoswood beats Alvin and beats Brook. Finish 3-2

Gee whiz! I bet the coaches would be scratching their heads and the UIL would probably have to send their executive committee down to analyze the situation and then I bet no one would be happy. They'd probably be counting first downs and total points and all sorts of arcana and nobody would understand how they come up with whatever it is they would come up with. Anyway, I don't see Creek losing to both Ball and Alvin, and I don't see Alvin beating Creek.

So until Friday:

Clear!!!!!!!!!!!!!__________________Lake!!!!!!!!!!!!!
