Many local
athletes were recognized recently with the unveiling of the All-District
24-5A high school football team.
Clear Creek's Gerrard Price, a
senior, was honored as Player of the Year for the entire district. He
completed eight of 13 passes in 2002, good for 203 total yards.
Price
also returned 13 punts for a total of 223 yards, averaging over 17 yards
per return. His longest punt return was 70 yards.
In
addition, Price returned seven kickoffs in 2002 for 134 total yards,
averaging over 19 yards per return.
Wildcat
Kevin Nail, along with Alvin's Michael White, were each honored as Co-
Offensive Most Valuable Players in the District for 2002.
While
White led all rushers with 1793 yards gained on 242 carries, Nail
accumulated 1336 rushing yards of his own.
Teammate Brenton Bolden racked up 1237 yards, including 120 yards and two
touchdowns against North Shore.
Clear
Creek's Bruce Davis was also recognized as the defensive Most Valuable
Player of District 24-5A.
Wildcat
Head Coach Aubrey Schulz, meanwhile, was named as Coach of the Year for
District 24-5A.
"I just
happened to be the head coach," Schulz said. "It was the varsity assistant
coaches who really deserve the majority of the credit. They all did a
great job."
Regarding the selection of Price as Player of the Year, Schulz noted, "Gerrard
was outstanding overall because he did so many things well on the field."
In
discussing the selections of Nail, Bolden, and Davis, Schulz said, "These
players all deserved their awards because of the outstanding years they
had. All of these awards my players received were well-deserved."
