On Saturday, May 21, 2005,
Scott Nimmons was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout by
Troop 595. During the troop's 25-year history, 46 young
men have earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Over 80 people
were in attendance for the National Court of Honor held
at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Clear Lake.
Eagle Scout Mitch Fossum, who has received an
appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy, presided as
Master of Ceremonies while former Scoutmaster David
Moyer administered the Eagle Oath. Steve Oswald,
Boeing's Space Shuttle Program Manager and a
distinguished Eagle Scout, was the Keynote Speaker.
Other participants in the
ceremony included Ross Harvison (Candidate Testimonial),
Henry Lampazzi (Troop Chaplain), James Parma (Troop
Committee Chair), Frank Unietis (Charter Organization
Representative), Pat Dwyer (former Troop Committee
Chair), Rick Ewan (former Scoutmaster), and Lane
MacFarlane (former Scoutmaster). Astronaut Mike Fossum
delivered the "Eagle Charge" to Scott with 10 other
Eagle Scouts standing with him. |

recited "100 Scouts", a compelling tribute to the
Scouting
program. Scouts involved in the ceremony included David
Nimmons, David Harvison, John Nemec, Ben Dwyer, Joe
Dwyer, John Samson, John Coleman, and Mark Harmon.
Scott presented his mother, Caroline Nimmons, a rose and
a special Eagle necklace. Among others, letters of |
recommendation were on
display from British Prime Minister Tony Blair,
Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza, and Chief Justice William
Rehnquist, as well as former Presidents Bush, Carter and
Ford.
Scott joined Troop 595 in April 1998 and over the years
attended at least six Summer or Winter Camps with the
troop. In March 2001, Scott was elected by other scouts
within the troop into Boy Scouts' Order of the Arrow and
in December 2003, was awarded the Brotherhood honor. |

In the Summer of 2002,
Scott went to Packard High Adventure Base in Colorado
with a contingent from Troop 595 where he and others
hiked to the summit of Mount Antero (over 14,000 feet
above sea level). For his Eagle Project, Scott
supervised the |

building, delivery, and
installation of three fish-cleaning tables for the Parks
Department of the City of Seabrook. Along with the
scouts involved in the Eagle Court of Honor, Scott was
assisted with his service project by Ben Volk, Lake's
All-State offensive lineman, and Pat Dwyer.
In addition to his participation in the Boy Scouts of
America, Scott is the Senior Class President of Clear
Lake High School's Class of 2005. He was also a
two-year starting offensive lineman for Lake's 2004
football team who were Class 5A State Semi-Finalists.
This past season, Scott was selected First Team Academic
All-State in football, All-District 24-5A (Honorable
Mention), as a finalist for the Greater Houston Scholar
Football Athlete, and as Subway's Top Grade Athlete of
the Week. The football coaches at Clear Lake awarded
him the school's "Top Gun" Award for Excellence.

On the morning of May
28th at Clear Creek ISD's District Stadium, Scott will
be graduating Magna Cum Laude with the rest of Clear
Lake's Class of 2005. During his
years at Lake, he has been a member of |
the National Honor
Society, Spanish HonorSociety, Track and Field, and was
a "Beefy" in the Senior Class Musical, "Anything Goes".
His fellow seniors at Lake voted him as "Friendliest",
"Most Dependable", "Most Likely to Succeed", and "Best
All-Around". At the Senior Awards Night on May 16th,
Scott was honored by receiving the American Legion Award
and being named one of Lake's Top 15 Students for the
school year. On the night, Scott received notification
of scholarships from the James Glenn Foundation, the
Mary Cecile Chambers Charitable Trust, and the Houston
Livestock Show and Rodeo. Other scholarships received
by Scott include ones from Touchdown Club of Houston,
Texas PTA, and the Space Center Rotary Club.
In the Fall, Scott will begin attending Rice University
where he plans to study for the medical or legal
professions. He will also be playing football for the
Owls.
