The Falcons start off the season with a win (15-6) versus the Tomball Cougars.  Both teams showed first game jitters as evidenced by the high number of turnovers.  Clear Lake had the initial advantage with an interception on Tomball’s first possession.  After consecutive first downs on running plays Clear Lake turned the ball over on a fumble at the Tomball 18. The first quarter ended in a 0-0 tie.  Both teams exchanged possessions without scoring through most of the second quarter.  Late in the second quarter Tomball was able to mount a drive on a very weary defense.  Cougars led the game 6 – 0 at halftime.  Coaching adjustments at halftime was evident by the performance of the Falcons in the second half.  The Falcons returned the kickoff to the 25 yard line.  The running game took over as the Falcons scored on the next drive which included a 65 yard run.  The extra point was not good.  In less than 4 minutes Clear Lake had tied the score.  After a 40 yard running play by Tomball was called back on a holding penalty, Lake’s defense forced another fumble which led to our next scoring drive.  Clear Lake takes the lead on a short run into the end zone. The extra point was good.  The defense and special teams stepped up big in the second half shutting out the Tomball offense through the entire period.  After a booming kickoff, the special teams squad makes the tackle deep in Cougar territory.  Tomball was not able to mount any offense and Lake regains possession.  Offense once again drives on Tomball however; a Lake fumble recovered by the Falcons ends the drive without a score.  Tomball sets up their offense on their own 30 yard line following a 45 yard punt.

Defense swarms in the second half mounting several key tackles behind the line of scrimmage.  With less than 2 minutes in the game, Tomball regains possession and fires up its offense.  The Cougar passing game once again turned into an opportune turnover.  Clear Lake’s second interception of the game was returned 60 yards into Tomball territory.  Offense was given the ball with less than two minutes left in the game however; the ball was stripped from Falcon possession and recovered by the Cougars.  With twenty five seconds left on the clock Tomball went to its bag of tricks, a reverse play in the end zone.  Lake’s veteran defensive captain was ready.  Tomball’s last offensive play was broken up by a crushing hit on the ball carrier which led to a two point safety.  Falcons defeat Tomball 15-6.
