Clear Lake now 2-0, hosts Baytown Lee
Clear
Lake gets to take its turn on the new turf at District Stadium on Thursday when
the Falcons host Baytown Lee.
Kickoff is
7 p.m.
The flying Falcons are off to a 2-0 start after downing
La Porte 35-17 on
Friday.
The Ganders are 1-0 after defeating Strake Jesuit Aug. 27 and had last week off.
Lake boosters will recall last year's game in District Stadium when it was still
a mud bowl and the Ganders handled the bad conditions much better than did the
Falcons en route to a 27-0 blowout.
With its year-old implemented option game, Clear Lake will have an edge in the
footing department that Lee doesn't.
One interesting aspect of the upcoming game against Lee is that Clear Lake was
also 2-0 when the Falcons hosted the Ganders last year.
In its first two games
Clear
Lake is averaging 328 yards on the ground. Quarterback Scott Oswald has 250
yards in the two games and is averaging nearly six yards each time he touches
the ball.
Against La Porte,
the Falcons scored first and never fell behind. It was La Porte's season opener.
Clear
Lake
held a comfortable 21-10 lead at the break and outscored the hosts 14-7 the rest
of the way.
The Falcons had 380 yards rushing while La Porte only had 104. The Bulldogs did
add another 111 yards passing to Lake's 32.
Oswald won't throw much and only completed one of five tosses, but the one he
did connect went for 32 yards and a touchdown to Devin Williams in the second
period.
So dominating was
Clear
Lake on the ground that the Falcons didn't have to punt once. But they fumbled
the ball five times, losing three of them. Oswald also was intercepted once.
Clear
Lake's
defense pounced on one fumble and picked off two Bulldog passes.
The Falcon scoring was done by Elrick Jones (7 yards, 46 yards) and Oswald (5,
17), in addition to the 32-yard pass play.
The closest the Ganders came in the game was 6-3. After Jones went in from the
six (the PAT failed) Rett Thibodeaux kicked a 37-yard field goal to narrow the
gap. But
Clear
Lake scored two touchdowns and a 2-point conversion to take command.
