Dominant Defense and a Solid Offense Leads Lake JV Dark to Victory
by Mike Nemer

Alvin received the opening kickoff and returned it to the Lake 10 yard line.  Matt Curry coming from across the field saved the touchdown.   The defense came out and set the tone for the entire game by driving Alvin backwards in their four plays.

The offense did not start quite as fast.  The Lake offense sputtered throughout the first half on their first four possessions.  Then on their final possession of the half they put it all together.  After recovering a fumble on the Alvin 43 yard line, the offense went to work.  The key play of this drive was a 24-yard pass from Chris MacDavid to Justin Reichle keeping the drive alive.  Two plays later Reichle scored on a 8 yard run.  The PAT kick was good by Tommy Duff.  Halftime score Lake 7 – Alvin 0

Lake received the second half kickoff and brought the ball out to their own 46.  This touchdown drive was capped off by a 20-yard touchdown pass from Chris MacDavid to John Kirby.  The PAT failed.

Lake’s next possession saw the Falcons drive down to Alvin’s 9 yard line only to fumble the opportunity away.  This allowed Alvin to drive the length of the field for a touchdown, making the score Lake 13 - Alvin 7.

In the fourth quarter Lake returned the kickoff to their own 38.  Not to let the clock stop Lake used their rushing offense to move the ball.  The key play in this drive was when Chris Sprott picked the ball up off the ground and ran for 20 yards to keep the drive alive.  With one minute left Chris MacDavid threw a fade pass from the five yard line to Bubby Hunter and with one hand he brought it in for a touchdown. The PAT kick was good by Tommy Duff.

After the kickoff Alvin tried to move the ball in the air only to have it intercepted.  Falcon’s Dark JV win 20-7

Alvin had the ball nine times.  The Falcon defense had three fumble recoveries and two interceptions.  Fumble recoveries were by Wes Miller, Michael Akeroyd, and Erich Veile. Interceptions were by Mark Moran and Bill Butler.
