The Clear Lake Falcons took the field against cross-town rival Clear Creek at District Stadium. Clear Creek came into the game with one of the top defenses in the Houston area, and a strong second place standing in 24-5A. Creek lost to Pearland last week. Lake clearly had their work cut out for them on both sides of the ball. Creek jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead despite tough defense led by Azzie Beagnyam, Chris Davidson, Patrick Kinslow, Mark Nowinski, David Perkins and Craig Brooks. Michael Akeroyd joined the ranks of the Falcon defenders this week with several big hits. Early in the second quarter, the Falcons started moving the ball. Devon Williams carried for 8. Fritz then hit Howard, Cormier and Hunter to move the ball down the field, but the drive was stalled when Lake turned over the ball. The defense came out strong, and held Creek to three and out. Patrick Kinslow was tough in the secondary on third and long, sending the receiver into orbit. Lakes big break came on the next play when Chris Davison blocked the Creek punt. However, Lake was unable to capitalize. Creek added another field goal going into the half, but lost Azzie to an injury. With Azzie out of the game in the second half, Lakes defense had their hands full. Michael Aekroyd tried to fill the void by lighting up several Creek ball carriers. Mark Nowinski continued to provide strong run support from the secondary, but Lakes young defense couldnt stem the tide, and Creek added a few more scores. Late in the game Chris Sprott came up with a big 30 yard run, showing that Lake does have some weapons being developed for the future. The Clear Lake Falcons and their hard working coaches come to play every week. They play their hearts out, but victory has been elusive. Each week Lakes young squad continues to grow, and their spirit is strong. THE YOUNG FALCONS NEED OUR SUPPORT NOW MORE THAN EVER, LETS GIVE IT TO THEM IN LA PORT ON FRIDAY. |
