The first quarter was a defensive struggle. Chris Davidson, David Perkins and Azzie Beagnyam led the way for the Falcons. Dasch Dahlke added to the Falcon forcefulness. Scott Dirks supported the Falcon effort with tough play on the special teams. Jeff Cole, taking over the punting duties, kept the ball out of the end zone; thereby keeping Brook pinned deep in their own territory. The Falcon offense battled from poor field position through most of the first quarter.
The second quarter continued as a defensive struggle. After an interception by Will McMullen, Lake drove down to field goal range on hard running by Scott and Howard, but the try by Jeff Cole was just wide. The first half ended with no score. Early in the second half, with the offensive standing strong, Howard hit Warren Cormier, with a slant across the middle, and after a good run, the Falcons were once again in field goal range.. This time, the Geoff Cole try was good, and Lake had all they would need to win, a 3-0 lead. The defensive struggle continued, until the Lake rush forced a Brook fumble on a punt at about mid field, which was recovered by Brian Laney. Lake seized this opportunity driving the ball to the end zone on strong running by Howard and Scott. At this point, Lake captured a 10-0 lead, which was enough for the Lake defense, which didnt give up much all night. |
