The Clear Lake Falcons traveled to Galveston Ball on Friday night to do battle with a very strong Ball squad. Lake played hard on both sides of the ball, but couldnt seem to gain the advantage. Early in the game, Ball came out running hard, and captured an early 14-0 lead, despite tough defense by Mark Nowinski, Russell Schoeber, and Chris Davidson. Nowinski made numerous of big stops all night. Lakes offense came out fired up. Fritz hit Scott for 35 and Lake was on a roll, but the drive stalled and Lake was forced to punt. After a 15 yard penalty, Ball was on their own 15. Late in the second quarter, Lake stopped Ball on downs, but they were deep enough in Lake territory to get three more on the field goal. Inspired by Lakes success on defense, the offense came out and began to move the ball. Fritz hit Howard for 20. Then with two Ball penalties, Lake was within striking distance. Fritz hit Howard again. Then off the scramble, Fritz floated the ball to Bubby Hunter in the end zone for the apparent score. But, the score was nullified by a late flag for a holding call. Ball took a 23-0 lead into the locker room at half time. Scott took the second half kick off and returned it to the Lake 38. Devon Williams added 10 more. Fritz, given ample time to throw by the strong offensive line of Jones, Niemczak, Taylor, Hewer, Senviel, and McKinney, hit Howard for 15, and then Scott for the 1st. Lake was in scoring distance. After a few tries at the end zone, Fritz hit Warren Cormier for the TD. The try for 2 failed, but Lake was on the board and in the game 23-6. The Lake drive consumed 7 minutes in the third quarter. Patrick ONeal picked up a Ball fumble late in the fourth quarter . Lake mounted a late drive for their final score. The drive was sustained with a lot of new names. . Chis Wampler came up with a big reception from Fritz to keep the final drive alive. Devon Williams was brought up from the Freshman Team. He carried the ball 13 times for 39 yards, and the final Lake TD. Its BEAT CREEK WEEK! We are ready! |
